#HowToStopFemicide
#HowToStopFemicide examines femicide through a global lens. Bringing together activists, collectives and experts from nine countries across four continents, the film explores the structural causes that enable gender-based violence and the people working to prevent systemic violence against women.
A survivor takes the Austrian state to court. Spanish prosecutors rewrite the law. Activists in South Korea fight digital violence. A safe space for trans women is created in Mexico. In Kenya, young women become community leaders.
Together, these local initiatives form a global narrative about the fight for life. Activists, lawyers, survivors and communities challenge state institutions, change laws, hold perpetrators to account and develop new forms of violence protection and prevention. From Vienna and Madrid to Seoul, Nairobi, Mexico City and Reykjavík, the film reveals that femicide is neither an individual tragedy nor confined to a particular culture or social class. Across the world, women are killed by men, most often by men they know.
The story begins where the headlines usually end, asking why states and societies continue to accept that more than 80,000 women are killed every year simply because they are women?
